Wind advisory, flood watch issued for Lafayette County

A wind advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. for Lafayette County, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph expected, according to Lafayette County EMA. Residents are urged to bring in or secure loose items, including patio furniture and trash cans, as tree limbs and power lines could come down.

A flood watch continues through 7 a.m. Sunday. About 1 inch of rain is expected in Oxford, with the heaviest rainfall forecast from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Low spots and ditches can flood quickly, and drivers should turn around if water covers a road.

The rain and wind are expected to ease this evening. Sunday is forecast to be sunny, with a high near 84, but motorists should watch for limbs and debris on roads. Anyone who sees a downed power line should stay away and report it to the power company. Residents should also ensure Wireless Emergency Alerts are enabled on their phones.
