Sourcing and AI disclosure

Mississippi News Group publishes original reporting alongside summaries of information from public agencies, organizations and other first-party sources. These are different types of coverage: a source summary reports what its cited source says and does not, by itself, represent an independent interview or investigation.

Sourcing and quotations

Source summaries attribute information to the originating source and link to it when available. The automated writing workflow is instructed to preserve direct quotations exactly and summarize other information without adding unsupported facts. A source’s allegation or opinion must remain attributed to that source.

AI-assisted source summaries

We use OpenAI tools to help extract information and prepare some summaries from selected source feeds. The workflow uses automated checks before publication, including checks for supported information, quotations, duplicate stories and required publishing details such as a featured image, category and tags.

Articles that pass these checks may publish automatically. Not every automated article receives human review before publication. Automated checks are not a guarantee of accuracy; AI can misinterpret source material or produce errors. An AI-assisted summary should not be understood as a claim that a reporter personally witnessed an event or interviewed the people quoted by the source.
