Flood watch issued for Lafayette County as heavy rain, winds expected

A flood watch is in effect for all of Lafayette County from 1 a.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Sunday as heavy rain and gusty winds are expected. Rainfall could total 1.5 to 2 inches, with locally higher amounts possible.

Rain is expected to arrive after 2 a.m., with the heaviest rain and strongest winds on Saturday. Winds are forecast to remain 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. Rain should taper off Saturday night, followed by drying conditions and mostly sunny weather Sunday.

Residents are advised to avoid driving or walking through water covering a road. They should secure trash cans, patio furniture and decorations, make backup plans for outdoor events and travel, and keep phones charged with emergency alerts turned on.
