Flood watch in effect for Lafayette County as heavy rain, winds expected

A flood watch is in effect for all of Lafayette County from 1 a.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Sunday as heavy rain and gusty winds are expected.

Rain is expected to arrive after 2 a.m., with the heaviest rainfall and strongest winds on Saturday. Forecast rainfall totals are 1.5 to 2 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Winds are expected to hold at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 45 mph.

Low-lying areas, roads and small creeks are most at risk for flash flooding. Residents are advised to avoid traveling through water covering a road, secure outdoor items and have backup plans for outdoor events and travel Saturday.

Rain is expected to taper off Saturday night, with drying conditions and mostly sunny weather Sunday.
