Delta State women’s soccer falls 3-2 to Valdosta State in conference opener
Delta State University’s women’s soccer team opened Gulf South Conference play with a 3-2 loss to Valdosta State at the VSU Soccer Complex in Valdosta, Georgia. The Lady Statesmen fell to 1-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
Valdosta State’s Sarah Hudson scored in the second minute, but Delta State responded in the 18th minute when Evie Shepherd scored the first goal of her career off an assist from Emma Earwood to tie the match at 1-1.
The Blazers scored twice before halftime to take a 3-1 lead into the break. Delta State reduced the deficit in the 51st minute, when Millie Webb scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Kennedi Turner.
Delta State finished with 20 shots, including 10 on goal. Goalkeeper Kim Bircher made eight saves.
The Lady Statesmen will host Union University on Wednesday in their 2026 home opener and next Gulf South Conference contest.
