Delta State women’s soccer opens conference play at Valdosta State

Delta State University’s women’s soccer team will open Gulf South Conference play against Valdosta State University at the Soccer Complex in Valdosta. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Central time, or 2 p.m. Eastern, and the match will be streamed on the FloCollege digital network.

Delta State enters the match with a 1-2-1 overall record after a nonconference schedule that included trips to Florida and Illinois. The Lady Statesmen are seeking to rebound from a 5-1 loss to Jackson State.

Senior midfielder Caroline Chandler leads Delta State with five points from two goals and an assist. She scored her second goal of the season in the match against Jackson State.

Delta State’s goalkeepers have combined for 33 saves, an average of 8.25 per match. Kim Bircher has 15 saves in two starts and a 1-1 record, while Piper Burgess leads the team with 18 saves. Sophomore Evie Shepherd has played a team-high 286 minutes across four matches.

Valdosta State enters conference play with a 1-1-1 record after a 2-2 tie against Georgia Southwestern. Senior forward Sarah Hudson leads the Blazers with five points on two goals and an assist, including the goal that tied the Georgia Southwestern match in the 33rd minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Adrienne Cardona-Colon has 13 saves in three matches and a 1-1-1 record. She has faced 18 of her 36 shots over the past two matches against Eckerd and Georgia Southwestern.
