Delta State women’s soccer falls to Jackson State 5-1

Delta State University’s women’s soccer team lost to Jackson State University 5-1 in a road match Monday afternoon at the JSU Soccer Complex in Jackson, Mississippi.

Jackson State scored twice in the opening 18 minutes and carried a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Lady Tigers added three goals after the break.

Delta State produced 12 of its 13 shots in the second half. Caroline Chandler scored in the 80th minute, her second goal of the season, to put the Lady Statesmen on the scoreboard.

Piper Burgess made seven saves in the first half, and Kim Bircher recorded five saves in relief. Jackson State led 29-13 in total shots and 17-6 in shots on goal, while both teams had seven corner kicks.

Delta State will travel to Valdosta next Saturday for its conference opener against the Blazers at 1 p.m.
