Mississippi Christian draws Union 2-2 after Bodry scores twice

Jaylen Bodry scored twice in the first half, but Mississippi Christian settled for a 2-2 draw with Union (Tenn.) on Saturday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Clinton. The Choctaws are 3-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in Gulf South Conference play.

Bodry opened the scoring on a penalty kick at 14:39 and scored again at 20:44 to give Mississippi Christian a 2-0 lead. Rebekah Jackson converted a penalty for Union at 23:34, cutting the deficit to 2-1 before halftime.

Mississippi Christian continued to generate chances after the break and outshot Union 17-8 overall, including a 9-3 advantage in the second half. Union tied the match in the 83rd minute when Jackson scored off an assist from Ebba Detulleo.

The Choctaws had late opportunities to retake the lead. Abby Badurak's shot hit the top of the woodwork at 85:37, followed by another attempt from Kerri O'Hara less than a minute later, but neither team scored again.

Bodry led Mississippi Christian with four shots, including two on goal, and converted her only penalty-kick attempt. Badurak had three shots, including one on goal, while Lillie McCutchen also recorded three shots. Brynn Hedberg played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves.

Mississippi Christian returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 16, against Valdosta State at 1 p.m. at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Clinton.
