Delta State women’s soccer draws Montevallo 1-1 at Delta Field

The Delta State University women’s soccer team played Montevallo to a 1-1 draw Saturday at Delta Field in Cleveland, Mississippi. Montevallo was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The result left the Lady Statesmen at 3-3-3 overall and 2-1-2 in Gulf South Conference play.

Delta State took the lead in the 84th minute when Caroline Chandler scored her third goal of the season on an assist from Emma Earwood. Montevallo equalized 42 seconds later to make it 1-1.

Montevallo outshot Delta State 20-8, held 61% possession and earned 11 corner kicks. Goalkeeper Kim Bircher made 10 saves, while the Delta State back line, anchored by Millie Jebb-Geer and Lola Cunningham, helped withstand the pressure.

Delta State will continue Gulf South Conference play next weekend at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.
