Vicksburg police investigate three unrelated overnight shootings
VICKSBURG, Mississippi — The Vicksburg Police Department said it is investigating three separate, unrelated shooting incidents that occurred overnight in different parts of the city.
At about 10:45 p.m. June 29, officers responded to the Hayes Street Apartments after reports of shots fired. The department said the preliminary investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from an argument between two groups. Multiple apartment buildings were struck by gunfire, but no injuries were reported. Officers arrested Tyler Sanders and charged him with possession of a concealed weapon. The shooting remains under investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming, the department said.
Also at about 10:45 p.m. June 29, officers responded to the 100 block of Athens Drive after receiving reports of shots fired. Investigators determined that one residence was struck by a projectile and that no one was injured, the department said. Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances of that incident.
Shortly after midnight June 30, officers responded to the Circle K convenience store at 574 Highway 61 North for a shooting. The department said the preliminary investigation indicates the incident began with an ongoing argument between two individuals. One victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Merit Health for treatment. That investigation remains ongoing.
The department said investigators have determined the three incidents are not related. Anyone with information is urged to call the Vicksburg Police Department at 601-636-2511 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477). This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
