Lowndes County deputies investigate overnight vehicle burglaries in New Hope
Lowndes County deputies are investigating a series of vehicle burglaries that occurred overnight and in the early morning hours in the New Hope community, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
Deputies were first dispatched after a resident reported seeing two masked people burglarizing vehicles on home surveillance video, the office said. By the time deputies arrived the suspects had fled, and later that morning the county’s 911 center received several additional calls from residents reporting burglarized vehicles in the Pinecrest Circle area.
Investigators said several homeowners provided surveillance footage that showed two people riding bicycles in the neighborhood around the time of the incidents. The sheriff’s office said it is reviewing video evidence and following up on leads, and that deputies will maintain increased patrols in the affected area.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins reminded residents to follow the 9 p.m. routine: lock vehicle doors; remove or secure firearms and valuables; keep purses, wallets, cash and electronics out of sight; never leave keys or key fobs in vehicles; and ensure exterior lighting and security cameras are working. The office urged anyone with footage or information to call 662-328-6788 or submit an anonymous tip through Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers via the P3 Tips app or 1-800-530-7151.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
