Hattiesburg police investigate overnight shooting

Hattiesburg Police Department said it is investigating a shooting that occurred around 12 a.m. Sunday, June 28, 2026, in the 100 block of J.C. Killingsworth Drive.

Officers learned that two individuals arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds, the department said. Investigators determined both were injured while standing outside in the 100 block of J.C. Killingsworth Drive. Neither victim’s injuries appeared to be life-threatening, police said.

The Hattiesburg Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the city of Hattiesburg, which is in southeastern Mississippi and is home to the University of Southern Mississippi. Shootings and other violent incidents prompt local police to canvass neighborhoods, interview witnesses and collect evidence as part of criminal investigations.
