Gulfport police arrest man in shooting that kills one, wounds two

Gulfport police arrested 34-year-old John Gaddis Ill of Gulfport on June 30, 2026, charging him with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault, the Gulfport Police Department said.

Officers responded about 8:45 p.m. on June 29 to the 2000 block of 32nd Avenue after reports of a shooting, the department said. They found one person dead at the scene and two others suffering gunshot wounds. The injured victims were taken to a local hospital and remain in critical condition, the department said.

Detectives determined the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute over narcotics involving Gaddis Ill and one of the victims, the department said. Gaddis III was located a short time later and taken into custody without incident. He was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and is being held on a $2,000,000 bond, the department said.
