Suspect barricades inside Rankin County home after fatal shootings

A suspect barricaded himself inside a home in Rankin County after two people were shot and killed, authorities said Friday.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department said the incident unfolded at a residence in the 1400 block of Monterrey Road near Florence. Sheriff Bryan Bailey said the two victims were family members who were related to the suspect.

The sheriff’s department said the road is completely blocked and drivers are being asked to avoid the area and use a detour. Officials did not immediately release the identities of the victims or the suspect and provided no additional details about a possible motive.

Rankin County, in central Mississippi, includes suburban and rural areas and is part of the Jackson metropolitan region. Barricade incidents are considered high risk; law enforcement typically secures a perimeter and may call negotiators or specialized units to resolve the situation while protecting nearby residents and first responders.

This is a developing story. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
