Starkville Police set safety zone in Cotton District on weekend nights
The Starkville Police Department announced a new safety zone in the Cotton District that will operate Fridays and Saturdays from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., the department said in a Facebook post.
The department said the measure is designed to support public safety in high-traffic areas. The Cotton District is a popular entertainment and nightlife neighborhood in Starkville, home to restaurants, bars and venues that draw late-night crowds, including visitors associated with nearby Mississippi State University.
Municipal police departments commonly use safety zones to concentrate resources, manage vehicle and pedestrian traffic and reduce the risk of late-night incidents in busy districts. Officials often share such schedules so residents and visitors can plan travel and parking accordingly.
The department asked the public to remember the schedule and take appropriate precautions. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
