Starkville police begin managed access in Cotton District on weekend nights
STARKVILLE, Mississippi — The Starkville Police Department said it will begin operating a managed access area in the Cotton District on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. to support public safety in high-traffic areas, the department said in a Facebook post.
Police described the move as a measure to enhance safety during peak evening hours. The department did not provide additional operational details in the post.
The Cotton District is a popular commercial and entertainment area in Starkville that draws residents, students and visitors to restaurants, bars and events. Managed access areas are commonly used in busy entertainment districts to better manage crowds and traffic and to reduce the risk of incidents during large gatherings.
Local residents and visitors may see a greater police presence during the announced hours. Officials have not released further guidance on access restrictions or enforcement procedures. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
