Starkville Police establish managed access area in Cotton District on weekend nights

STARKVILLE, Mississippi — The Starkville Police Department said it will operate a managed access area in the Cotton District on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. beginning this week to support public safety in high-traffic areas.

The department said there will be four designated entry points into the managed access area, with an additional alternate entry opened as needed. Entry requirements, the department said, include a valid ID, being 18 or older, wearing a wristband provided at entry points, and no backpacks, outside beverages or masks or face coverings.

Officials also outlined traffic changes. Vehicles traveling west to University Drive from Barr Avenue and Camp Avenue will be available as an alternate route to bypass the Cotton District, the post said. Motorists traveling north on Colonel Muldrow Drive will need to travel east toward Barr Avenue and Camp Avenue. The Starkville Police Department posted a map showing routes, closures and entry points.

Managed access areas are commonly used to control crowd flow and enhance safety in busy entertainment districts. The department said the measure is intended to improve public safety during peak hours. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
