Starkville Police Department runs weekend safety zone, rideshare pickup in Cotton District

The Starkville Police Department said in a Facebook post it will operate a safety zone and rideshare pickup and drop-off in the Cotton District on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. The department said the effort is designed to support public safety in high-traffic areas.

The department, which provides municipal policing services for Starkville, Mississippi, said the rideshare pickup and drop-off will continue to operate from the same location used since a change in 2024. The Facebook post did not identify the exact pickup location.

The Cotton District is a popular entertainment and dining area near Mississippi State University that draws large crowds on weekend nights. Weekend safety zones and designated rideshare areas are commonly used by police departments to help manage traffic flow, reduce congestion and provide safer transportation options for residents and visitors.

The department did not provide additional operational details in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
