Starkville Police honor telecommunicators during National Public Safety Week
Starkville Police Department is recognizing National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 2026 and thanking its emergency telecommunicators for their service, the department said in a Facebook post.
The department said its telecommunicators are the unseen first responders who serve as the critical link between the community and officers, answering calls and coordinating response with a steady voice and calm presence during crises.
Telecommunicators — often called emergency dispatchers — handle 911 and other emergency calls, gather critical information, dispatch police and other responders, and provide life-saving instructions. Their work is continuous and typically occurs behind the scenes, with little public visibility despite its importance to public safety.
The acknowledgment from the Starkville Police Department highlights the role of these employees in maintaining community safety. The department said it thanks telecommunicators “this week, and every week.” We will provide more information as it becomes available.
