Oxford police honor dispatchers during National Telecommunicators Week
OXFORD, Mississippi — The Oxford Police Department is marking National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week by recognizing the dispatchers who answer the city’s emergency lines, the department said in a Facebook post.
The department wrote that residents may never meet dispatchers in person, but they have likely heard their voices. The post said dispatchers work every day, night, weekend and holiday, and are trained to stay calm when callers cannot, listen when words are hard to find and provide a steady voice during frightening moments.
National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is observed annually to honor the work of dispatchers, who often serve as the first point of contact in emergencies. Telecommunicators handle incoming calls, dispatch responders and provide critical information that can affect response times and public safety.
Oxford Police Department thanked its dispatch team for their skill and dedication and said the community is safer because of them. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
