Hattiesburg honors telecommunicators during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
Hattiesburg Police Department is recognizing its dispatchers this week as part of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, saying they are the true first responders behind every call for help, the department said in a Facebook post.
The department described dispatchers as the calm in chaotic moments, often the first voice a caller hears during an emergency. Telecommunicators provide reassurance, gather critical information and help guide both the public and field responders through difficult situations, the post said.
Telecommunicators play a central role in the emergency response system. They receive and prioritize calls, dispatch officers and other emergency personnel, and maintain communication that can be critical to saving lives. The work requires specialized training and can involve high stress as employees make rapid decisions under pressure.
The police department thanked its telecommunicators for their dedication, professionalism and resilience. Hattiesburg, a city in southern Mississippi, relies on those behind the scenes to connect callers with timely assistance. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
