Jackson Police Department honors dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

The Jackson Police Department is honoring its public safety dispatchers and call-takers during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 2026, Chief RaShall M. Brackney, Ph.D., said.

“Long before I stepped into this role, I understood that public safety is built on relationships, trust, and the quiet courage of people who show up when no one else will,” Brackney said in a statement posted by the department. She said dispatchers are the “first point of contact in someone’s most vulnerable moment” and carry that responsibility “with professionalism, compassion, and grace every single day.”

Brackney praised dispatchers as “the first voice. The first responder,” and added, “You are not behind the scenes. You are seen, you are valued, and we are grateful. Thank you for being the calm voice in chaos.”

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is an annual observance that recognizes the work of 911 dispatchers and call-takers who handle emergency calls and coordinate first responders. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
