Oxford police wrap up week 1 of Camp C.O.P.S.
Oxford Police Department said on its Facebook page Wednesday that it wrapped up the first week of Camp C.O.P.S. in Oxford, Mississippi.
The department said campers began the day with a timed obstacle and agility course and later learned about the OPD Mounted Patrol, where participants were allowed to pet the horses.
The Oxford Police Department is the municipal law enforcement agency serving Oxford and the University of Mississippi community. Mounted patrol units traditionally provide crowd management, search capabilities in difficult terrain and opportunities for officers to engage with residents in community settings.
Officials did not provide additional details about the camp’s participants or full schedule. Community events such as this are commonly used by police agencies to build relationships with residents and introduce young people to aspects of public safety. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
