Jackson Police wrap up summer youth camp
Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post that its Summer Youth Camp “wrapped up today” with participants showcasing talents and community involvement.
The department said campers took part in prayer, scripture reading, recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sang and otherwise “exemplif[ied] excellence,” according to the post. The post described the young people as “AMAZING youth, the next generation of movers and shakers.”
The department thanked Sgt. Suttles, Community Engagement staff, volunteers, chaplains, donors, parents and Training Academy staff for collaborating to run the program and support the participants, the post said.
Summer youth camps run by police departments typically aim to build relationships between officers and young people, offer mentorship and teach civic values and leadership skills. Community-focused programs are often part of broader efforts by law enforcement agencies to engage residents and foster trust.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
