Gulfport Police welcome three officers after Harrison County academy

The Gulfport Police Department congratulated Officers Caleb Baumgardner, Julian Betts and Elijah Shoemake on their graduation from the Harrison County Law Enforcement Academy, the department said in a Facebook post.

The post said the officers completed months of rigorous training that required discipline, determination and a commitment to public service. It called their completion of the academy “no small accomplishment,” and said the recruits demonstrated the character, work ethic and professionalism required to wear the badge.

The department also recognized Baumgardner for receiving the Physical Fitness Award, Shoemake for receiving the Larkin Smith Award and Detective Sergeant Mitchell Ashby for being selected as Favorite Instructor. The department said those honors reflect the graduates’ dedication and excellence.

The Gulfport Police Department said it is proud to welcome the officers to its ranks and looks forward to the impact they will make in the community. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
