Skydio visits Oxford police, demos drone for Camp C.O.P.S. campers

Oxford Police Department said on Facebook that Skydio visited the department and showcased its latest drone technology, and provided a demonstration for Camp C.O.P.S. campers.

Skydio is a U.S.-based manufacturer of autonomous drones that sells products to consumers and public safety agencies. The company has become known for systems that can operate with limited pilot input.

The Oxford Police Department is the municipal police agency for Oxford, Mississippi, home to the University of Mississippi. The department did not provide additional details about the visit or the scope of the demonstration in its post.

Drones have become increasingly common tools for law enforcement, used by agencies for tasks such as search and rescue, traffic monitoring and documenting incidents. Demonstrations and community events can also serve as outreach to help residents understand how departments use emerging technology.

In its Facebook post, the department wrote, “We appreciate Skydio for visiting OPD today and showcasing their latest drone technology! We also want to thank them for putting on a demo for our Camp C.O.P.S. Campers!” We will provide more information as it becomes available.
