Oxford police visit OPC summer camp to demonstrate fingerprinting
OXFORD, Miss. — The Oxford Police Department said on its Facebook page that members of its Criminal Investigations Division swapped case files for fingerprint kits this morning to visit the OPC summer camp.
Investigators walked the children through tools and techniques used to solve cases, including how fingerprints are lifted and examined, the department said. The post said the visit generated “lots of great questions from our future detectives” and thanked OPC for hosting the event.
The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for probing serious crimes and collecting forensic evidence. Community outreach events such as this one aim to demystify investigative work, introduce students to careers in law enforcement and forensic science, and build trust between police and young residents.
Local police departments frequently use demonstrations and hands-on activities to educate the public about public safety and evidence-gathering methods. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
