Ocean Springs police boost seatbelt enforcement during Click It or Ticket campaign

The Ocean Springs Police Department said the Click It or Ticket campaign runs through May 31, and officers will increase patrols and conduct child safety seat checks as part of the effort.

The department said state and local law enforcement partners will join OSPD in stepped-up enforcement to ensure drivers, passengers and young children are properly buckled or secured in child safety seats and booster seats.

In a Facebook post, the department said wearing a seatbelt is “the single most effective way to protect yourself and your passengers in a crash” and urged motorists to “buckle up every trip. Every time. No exceptions.” The post also said the campaign is conducted in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The department said officers will patrol in marked units and that its goal is to keep residents safe rather than issue citations. “We don’t want to write tickets — we want to see you and your family safe on the roads,” the post said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
