OSHS shelters in place after phone-in threat

OSHS went into what the district called a “Shelter-in-Place” this afternoon after a phone-in threat to the campus, district officials said in a Facebook post timestamped 3:24 p.m. on May 18.

Administration immediately notified authorities, and OSSD PD, the Ocean Springs Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department responded to secure and sweep the campus, the post said. Officials said students and staff were not in danger at any point.

Although multiple law enforcement agencies cleared the campus, OSHS remained in shelter-in-place until dismissal at 3:51 p.m. The district said checkouts were not permitted and visitors were not allowed to enter the building, and parents should expect delays during dismissal.

District officials thanked the community for its patience and reiterated that student safety is their top priority. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
