The Ocean Springs Police Department said it will take part in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement blitz throughout the Labor Day weekend, increasing patrols and checkpoints to keep impaired drivers off roadways.
Officials urged residents and visitors to plan ahead if their holiday plans include alcohol: choose a sober designated driver, use a rideshare or taxi, never drive while impaired and never ride with someone who has been drinking. The department also asked people to report suspected impaired drivers to law enforcement.
Police emphasized seat-belt use, saying every passenger should be buckled — “every passenger, in every seat, on every trip” — and that children must be secured in appropriate car seats or booster seats.
Officers will be working throughout the holiday weekend to help keep Ocean Springs and those traveling the area safe, the department said. Officials urged motorists to drive sober, buckle up, put phones down, slow down and stay alert.
