Lowndes County boosts seat belt enforcement during Click It or Ticket

Lowndes County will join a statewide Click It or Ticket enforcement effort from May 11-31, 2026, the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety said. The office, which oversees the program in the state, said the campaign is part of a national initiative to increase seat belt use.

The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said deputies will conduct high-visibility enforcement and public education during the period. Activities will include safety belt and DUI enforcement operations and checkpoints throughout the county, the office said.

Deputies will focus on ensuring drivers and passengers wear seat belts and that children use appropriate restraints, the sheriff’s office said. The Mississippi Office of Highway Safety also coordinates the state’s Occupant Protection program, which aims to reduce fatalities, injuries and crashes involving unbelted motorists.

Click It or Ticket highlights the legal and safety consequences of not wearing a seat belt and encourages all motorists to buckle up. Wearing a seat belt is widely recognized as one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of death and serious injury in a crash. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
