Hattiesburg police ticket unbuckled drivers in Click It or Ticket campaign
The Hattiesburg Police Department is participating in the national Click It or Ticket campaign through May 31, the department said. During the high-visibility enforcement period, officers will increase patrols focused on seat belt compliance and may stop vehicles and issue tickets to unbuckled drivers and passengers.
Drivers can expect to see an increased law enforcement presence across Hattiesburg as part of the effort, the department said. Officers will enforce state seat belt laws during traffic stops, traffic checkpoints and other enforcement activities aimed at improving roadway safety.
The campaign emphasizes that buckling up is one of the safest choices drivers and passengers can make, whether on a short trip across town or a long highway drive, the department said. Seat belts help keep people secure during crashes and remain one of the best defenses against impaired, aggressive and distracted drivers, the department added.
The department urged motorists to “Click it. Every trip. Every time.” We will provide more information as it becomes available.
