National Weather Service issues slight severe-storm risk for parts of Mississippi
The National Weather Service has issued a slight risk for severe storms for parts of Mississippi from the afternoon of May 10, 2026, through the morning of May 11, 2026, the agency said in a social media post.
The post warned the state could see severe storms, damaging winds and hail up to a quarter in size. It advised residents to follow local meteorologists for the latest forecast in their area.
The National Weather Service, the federal agency responsible for weather forecasts and warnings, uses categorical outlooks such as a “slight” risk to indicate an increased chance of organized severe thunderstorms. Such outlooks help emergency managers and the public prepare for hazards that can include strong wind gusts, hail and localized flooding.
Officials and meteorologists urge residents to monitor forecasts, secure outdoor items and be prepared to take shelter in a sturdy building away from windows if conditions deteriorate. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
