National Weather Service issues slight risk for severe storms in Mississippi
The National Weather Service said it has issued a slight risk for severe storms for parts of Mississippi this afternoon into tonight, June 1, 2026.
The agency listed possible threats including severe storms, damaging winds and hail up to quarter-size. The Weather Service advised residents to monitor forecasts and follow local meteorologists for updates in their areas.
The National Weather Service, an agency of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, issues outlooks and warnings to help people prepare for hazardous weather. A “slight” risk is one of several categories the agency uses to communicate the potential for organized severe weather and is intended to prompt heightened awareness.
Severe storms can cause property damage, power outages and travel disruptions, particularly when accompanied by strong winds or hail. Residents in the affected areas should review safety plans, secure loose outdoor items and stay tuned to local weather statements. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
