Slight severe storm risk threatens parts of Mississippi
A slight risk of severe storms exists for parts of Mississippi Wednesday afternoon into the evening hours, a Facebook post said, warning of damaging wind gusts, hail up to half-dollar size in some areas and the possibility of a tornado.
The post, published Wednesday, urged residents to continue to follow their local meteorologist for the latest forecast in their area. It did not specify which counties would be most affected.
Forecasters use a “slight risk” classification to indicate the potential for scattered severe storms, including isolated storms that can become more intense. Severe thunderstorms can produce damaging winds, large hail and occasionally tornadoes, all of which can cause property damage and injuries.
Officials and safety experts typically advise people to secure outdoor items, seek shelter in a sturdy building away from windows, and monitor local forecasts and alerts on radio, television or mobile devices. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
