National Weather Service issues enhanced severe weather risk for northern Mississippi
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said Tuesday that the National Weather Service has issued an enhanced risk for severe weather across northern Mississippi beginning April 27 and lasting through the evening, with another round expected April 28 into the morning of April 29.
MEMA said the state could see severe storms, damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, hail and tornadoes. The agency posted the update on its Facebook page and urged residents to stay weather-aware and follow local forecasts.
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency coordinates preparedness, response and recovery efforts across the state and often amplifies warnings issued by the National Weather Service. The NWS uses risk categories such as enhanced to indicate an increased likelihood of dangerous weather that can cause significant property damage and personal injury.
MEMA advised residents to have multiple ways to receive alerts, to identify a safe place in their homes and to continue following local meteorologists for the latest forecast. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
