Hattiesburg police investigate accidental shooting involving minor

Hattiesburg police are investigating an accidental shooting involving a minor that occurred early Tuesday morning, the Hattiesburg Police Department said.

Officers were notified at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2026, that a minor had been transported by private vehicle to a local hospital with a gunshot wound, the department said. Detectives determined the shooting occurred in the 2400 block of McInnis Loop.

Based on a preliminary investigation, the department said the shooting is believed to have been accidental. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to establish the circumstances that led to the injury.
