Hattiesburg police investigate drive-by shooting
Hattiesburg police are investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, in the 700 block of North 30th Avenue, the Hattiesburg Police Department said.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired and determined one person had been struck by gunfire. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the department said. The investigation remains ongoing.
The Hattiesburg Police Department, which serves the city of Hattiesburg in south Mississippi, asked anyone with information to call 601-544-7900. The department also encouraged tips to Metro Crime Stoppers, including by dialing TIPS or submitting a tip through P3Tips.com, a platform used by many communities to collect anonymous information.
Drive-by shootings pose particular public safety concerns because they can endanger bystanders and complicate investigations. Authorities did not release additional details about possible suspects or a motive. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
