Hattiesburg police investigate reported shooting on Wedgewood Drive

The Hattiesburg Police Department said it is investigating a reported shooting that occurred Aug. 9 in the 900 block of Wedgewood Drive.

Officers responded at approximately 5:40 a.m. after receiving reports of a firearm being discharged, the department said. No one was injured in the incident. Multiple individuals were detained and the investigation is ongoing.

The department, which serves as the primary law enforcement agency for Hattiesburg, Mississippi, asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 601-582-STOP. Local police agencies typically gather witness statements, review any available video and follow forensic leads as part of shooting investigations.

Early-morning shootings in residential areas can raise public safety concerns, and investigators will seek to determine the circumstances and whether charges are warranted. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
