Sheriff’s Office honors dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunications Week

The sheriff’s office posted on Facebook that it is honoring its emergency dispatchers for National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, April 12-18, 2026, calling them the “heroes behind the headsets.”

The post praised dispatchers as the “calm in the storm” and said they are the “calmest voices in the darkest moments,” handling countless 911 calls that can include cries, screams, gunshots and, at times, people taking their last breath, according to the post.

It said dispatchers give pre-arrival, CPR and safety instructions before other responders arrive on scene and described them as unsung champions and lifesavers. The post invited members of the public to stop by the sheriff’s office to thank dispatchers in person.

The message on Facebook was signed by Sheriff Mike Lee, Chief Deputy Brad Ellis and Public Information Officer Joshua Thames. National Public Safety Telecommunications Week is observed annually to recognize the work of 911 telecommunicators who answer emergency calls and coordinate responses. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
