South Jackson neighborhoods hold annual parade

The Association of South Jackson Neighborhoods held its annual parade, and the Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post that Chief RaShall Brackney, her command staff and operations units joined Mayor John Horhn, council members, first responders, school and university marching bands, vendors and community members for the event.

The post, published by the police department, called the parade “outstanding” and credited community organizers with helping make the gathering possible. It named Mr. Ernest Ward and Mr. Johnny Byrd among those praised for their roles.

ASJAN, a neighborhood organization that coordinates local events and community advocacy in South Jackson, often stages parades and festivals intended to bring residents together and highlight local schools, businesses and civic resources. Community parades typically provide opportunities for residents to connect with elected officials and public safety personnel.

Jackson Police Department participation in community events is part of broader efforts by law enforcement agencies to engage residents, promote public safety and strengthen neighborhood ties. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
