William Carey defeats Point University in third straight five-set victory

The William Carey Lady Crusaders defeated Point University 3-2 at the Ben Waddle Sports Facility in Hattiesburg, earning their third consecutive five-set victory.

Carey won the opening set 25-19 after closing with an 8-2 run. The Lady Crusaders then rallied late in the second set, using consecutive kills by Emily Martin and Rachel Stegall to secure a 26-24 win and take a 2-0 match lead.

Point responded in the third set. Carey opened with four straight points and later built a 10-5 lead, but the Skyhawks cut the deficit to 11-10 before taking control and winning 25-19.

Carey led 15-9 in the fourth set, but Point eventually moved ahead 17-16. After the teams exchanged leads, back-to-back Carey errors helped the Skyhawks win 27-25 and force a decisive fifth set.

The Lady Crusaders took a 9-5 lead in the final set before Point tied the score at 10-10. Maurin Reyes then delivered a kill to give Carey match point, and a Point attack error sealed the 3-2 victory.

William Carey is scheduled to return to action Friday, Oct. 2, at Blue Mountain Christian in a conference matchup. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
