William Carey defeated Thomas University 7-0 at Danny Owens Field in Hattiesburg, with the Lady Crusaders scoring twice in the opening three minutes and taking a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Raquel Diaz set up Linda Mustered for the opening goal two minutes into the match. One minute later, Mustered assisted Mia Encinia, who doubled Carey’s advantage with a shot into the bottom corner. In the 31st minute, Luana Falconeri crossed to Paola Alvarez, who finished to give Carey the halftime lead.
Carey extended its lead early in the second half when Falconeri played a loose ball to Alvarez, who scored her second goal of the afternoon. Mustered added another in the 85th minute after her initial shot was deflected back to her.
Sophie Magee scored a minute later, and Alba Aguado completed the scoring in the 88th minute by heading in a corner kick from Boo Mills.
William Carey is scheduled to return Thursday, Sept. 17, at the University of Mobile in Mobile, Alabama. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
