Mississippi State volleyball extended its winning streak to three matches Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Wake Forest in the annual “Showdown at the Net” ACC/SEC Challenge in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The Bulldogs took the opening set 25-18 after turning a 15-14 lead into a 20-15 advantage with a 6-1 run. Mississippi State then hit .412 as a team without an error in the second set, winning 25-14. Wake Forest answered with a 25-21 third-set victory, but Mississippi State rallied after the Demon Deacons took their largest lead of the fourth set at four points. The Bulldogs tied the set at 13 and closed out the match 25-18.
Lindsey Mangelson led the Bulldogs with 16 kills and added a season-high 14 digs for her third double-double in the past four matches. She also had two blocks. Bernardita Aguilar recorded 12 kills and 15 digs for her third consecutive double-double.
Paloma Routaboul had seven kills, while Noella Obi added seven kills on a .538 hitting percentage and five blocks, including two solo blocks. Ava Anderson contributed a season-high six kills, and McKenna Yates finished with 21 digs for her second 20-plus-dig performance of the season.
Mississippi State will travel to Tennessee for matches against Alcorn State and Memphis. The Bulldogs will play Alcorn State at 3 p.m. Friday and Memphis at 3 p.m. Saturday, with the latter match available on ESPN+.
