William Carey women’s soccer defeats No. 10 Life University 3-1

William Carey defeated No. 10 Life University 3-1 in a Southern States Athletic Conference road match, scoring twice in the opening eight minutes and adding a second-half goal.

Boo Mills set up the opening goal in the third minute with a corner kick to the back post, where Alba Aguado headed William Carey into a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, goalkeeper Alicia Garwood sent a punt into the attacking third for Paola Alvarez, who finished behind the Running Eagle defense to make it 2-0.

Life University converted a penalty kick in the 31st minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. The teams did not add another goal before halftime.

William Carey restored its two-goal advantage in the 65th minute. Mills delivered another corner kick to the back post, and Susan De Souza Santos scored with a header to make it 3-1. The William Carey defense limited Life University to one shot during the final 25 minutes.

William Carey is scheduled to return to action Sunday, Sept. 27, against Dalton State College in Dalton, Georgia. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
