MVSU tennis teams combine for five singles wins against Mississippi University for Women

Mississippi Valley State's men's and women's tennis teams combined for five singles victories against Mississippi University for Women at Garrett Courts in Columbus, including four comeback wins in deciding match tiebreakers. The Delta Devils lost two team decisions, 4-3 and 5-2.

Julien Cordeau led the men's lineup at No. 1 singles by rallying past David Gimenez 2-6, 6-0, [10-7]. Cordeau won the second set without dropping a game and took the deciding match tiebreaker 10-7.

Juan Alejandro Rozo defeated Luis Oliva at No. 2 singles, winning the opening set 7-5 before Oliva retired. Jorge Navaratte Prats completed MVSU's sweep of the top three men's singles positions with a 6-7, 6-2, [10-1] victory over Ian Arrese.

Cordeau and Rozo lost 6-4 to Gimenez and Oliva at No. 1 men's doubles. Mississippi University for Women secured the doubles point and received forfeit wins at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles.

In the women's singles matches, Ruramai Nyamakura defeated Laura Camara 2-6, 6-0, [10-5] at No. 1. Claudia Lopez beat Orianna Roldan 6-7, 6-2, [11-9] at No. 2, overcoming a first-set tiebreak loss before edging Roldan 11-9 in the deciding tiebreaker.

Mississippi University for Women also earned the women's doubles point and received forfeits at Nos. 3 through 6 singles. Across the two competitions, MVSU won all five contested singles matches and went 4-0 in deciding match tiebreakers.
