Southern Miss women’s tennis opens fall with 11 wins at Ragin’ Cajun Invitational

Southern Miss women’s tennis opened its fall schedule with 11 wins across singles and doubles at the Ragin’ Cajun Invitational in Lafayette, Louisiana, including seven singles victories and four doubles wins over two days at Culotta Tennis Center.

The Golden Eagles began Friday by winning both doubles matches. Sakura Sudo and Pimmada Lim posted a 6-1 victory, followed by Kamornwan Kornsila and Manuella Persson’s 7-5 win. Sudo then won her opening singles match 7-6 (3), 6-3.

Lim added a three-set singles victory after dropping the first set. She won the second set 7-5 and completed the match with a 10-7 win in the match tiebreak, giving Southern Miss four victories on the opening day.

Southern Miss followed with two more doubles wins Saturday. Kornsila and Persson earned another 7-5 victory, while Miranda Xu and Alina Cherniaieva won 6-1.

The Golden Eagles then collected five singles wins to close the event. Lim completed an unbeaten singles weekend with a 6-2, 6-4 victory, while Cherniaieva won 6-2, 6-3. Kornsila won 6-2, 6-2, and Xu followed with a 6-2, 6-1 decision.

Mia Hasashi-Morrissey also won in three sets. After losing the opening set 6-3, she took the second 6-4 and won the match tiebreak 10-6.

Kornsila and Persson finished 2-0 as a doubles pair, while Lim went 2-0 in singles and also earned a doubles win with Sudo. Six different Golden Eagles recorded at least one singles victory during the event.

Southern Miss next continues its fall schedule at the Big Easy Fall Invitational in New Orleans on Oct. 2-3.
