Delta State teams schedule soccer, tennis and football events this week
Delta State’s Statesmen and Lady Statesmen are scheduled to compete in soccer, tennis, football and cross country events this week after recent losses in men’s soccer, women’s soccer and football. The athletics department also scheduled a Mississippi Farm Bureau press conference for 11 a.m. Monday in the Arant Family Room at Chadwick Dickson. The press conference will be streamed on the Delta State YouTube Channel, @DSUStatesmen, and media members are invited to attend.
On Wednesday, Sept. 16, the women’s soccer team will play Union University at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s soccer team against Union at 3:30 p.m. Both matches will be held at Delta Field in Cleveland and offer live viewing and live statistics.
Tennis will host the Delta State Invite at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland.
Saturday’s schedule includes three events. Women’s soccer will face UAH at 1 p.m. at Delta Field, with men’s soccer playing UAH at 3:30 p.m. at the same venue. Football will play Mississippi Valley State University at 6 p.m. at Rice-Totten Stadium at Chuck Prophet Field in Itta Bena. The soccer and football events list live viewing and live statistics.
Cross country is scheduled to compete at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, on Saturday, with the time listed as to be determined.
Recent headlines include a 4-0 loss by the Statesmen to CBU to close nonconference play, a 3-2 conference-opening loss by the Lady Statesmen to Valdosta State and a 59-10 loss by the Statesmen to the Mules. Jekerious Williams was recognized among the players of the week after contributing a kickoff return and a 38-yard reception, while Evie Shepherd scored her first career goal for the Lady Statesmen.
