Millsaps women’s soccer falls to Centenary 4-2 on Senior Night

Millsaps College’s women’s soccer team fell to Centenary College 4-2 on Friday at Harper Davis Field in a Senior Night matchup. Before the game, Millsaps recognized seniors Alex Bremond, Becca Quick and Reese Brasseaux, who walked onto midfield with their families.

Centenary took a 2-0 lead in the first half on two goals by Valerie Miranda, scored at 27 seconds and 22:05. Millsaps went into halftime trailing by two despite creating several chances, including shots from Hailie Moorer, Zillia Biniam, Victoria Viquez, Henley Havens and Rowan Crovetto.

The Majors tied the match early in the second half. Bremond scored from Havens’ assist at 48:14, and Moorer finished Bremond’s assist at 55:15. Millsaps remained level at 2-2 during a second-half stretch from 68:48 to 75:19 before Centenary scored at 76:44 and 78:58.

Bremond scored on her only shot and added an assist for three points. Moorer scored and led Millsaps with four shots, including three on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Borden played all 90 minutes and made six saves, including stops on Miranda in the 55th, 70th and 77th minutes.

Millsaps finished with 12 shots, six on goal, while Centenary had 15 shots and 10 on goal. The Majors generated a late corner kick and a Biniam shot in the 90th minute but could not close the gap.

Millsaps will return Friday for its conference opener against Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee, beginning at 4 p.m. CT.
