Women’s soccer: Southern Miss hosts Troy for Sun Belt Senior Day
Southern Miss women’s soccer will host Troy in a Sun Belt Conference match at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer Complex in Hattiesburg. Both teams enter the matchup 2-3 in conference play, with Southern Miss at 5-5-2 overall and Troy at 3-8-2.
Southern Miss will recognize its seniors before kickoff. The event also includes Fall Fest and Club Day activities at The Bell, along with pumpkin painting for fans who bring their own pumpkin and a raffle for Southern Miss soccer camp registration for youth in seventh grade or younger.
The Golden Eagles have scored 21 goals in 12 matches and average 14.1 shots per match. They hold a 169-166 advantage in total attempts and a 56-50 edge in corner kicks. Ava Bynes leads the team with four goals, two assists and 10 points, while Shaelynn Quick also has four goals.
Georgia Gray scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 88th minute of Southern Miss’ match at Coastal Carolina on Thursday. Ryan Smith and Lorilee Taylor have two goals and two assists apiece, while Olivia Tribolet has two goals and one assist.
Troy enters after consecutive Sun Belt victories over Coastal Carolina and Louisiana Tech. The Trojans defeated Coastal Carolina 1-0 before scoring four times against Louisiana Tech. Alaina Uncapher leads Troy with five goals, four assists and 14 points; Irene Torres, Madisyn Marchesi and Isabella Hartofelis have scored twice each.
Southern Miss is unbeaten in five all-time meetings with Troy, with three wins and two draws, and has won the past three. The Golden Eagles won 2-1 on the road in 2023, 2-0 in Hattiesburg in 2024 and 1-0 in Troy last season, allowing one goal across that winning streak.
After Sunday’s match, Southern Miss is scheduled to travel to Mobile, Alabama, to face South Alabama at 6 p.m. CT Friday, Oct. 16, at The Cage.
